At the heart of the task of catechesis is the person of Jesus. The missionary mandate of Jesus calls us to proclaim, witness, teach, celebrate sacraments and love our neighbor.
Parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith. It is through the witness of Christian life given by parents within the context of the family that children are formed to respond to the call of their Baptism. The care that is taken to model and explain the Christian and religious meaning of events together with parental support of formal catechesis provided by the parish’s catechetical program form children in faith. “Family catechesis precedes . . . accompanies and enriches all forms of catechesis.” (GDC #226).
The catechists, staff, Father Brad and parishioners of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church are dedicated to helping children grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ and in their love for and knowledge of the Catholic faith.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. Like Baptism and Eucharist, it is a Sacrament of Initiation for Catholics and a Sacrament of faith in God’s fidelity to us. Confirmation is regarded as the perfection of Baptism, because, as the introduction to the Rite of Confirmation states: by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
Here at St. Francis, Confirmation takes place in the spring. During the 2011/2012 year, prepared  8th and 9th graders will celebrate this Sacrament. This is a two year preparation program.   The year of receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, the youth should have regular attendance at High School Youth Group, and attend our Confirmation retreat.  They will also have provided 10 hours of Community Service during the year.

Workcamp

Every summer St. Francis of Assisi Youth Group goes on at least one (many times two) Group Workcamp Trips. Youth and young adults look back on their “Workcamp” experience and pinpoint this mission trip as a place their faith deepened dramatically, where they bonded like never before. They hear God’s word…do God’s Word…and become more faithful followers of Christ. Our top goal while on these trips is for all participants to grow spiritually.
We have gone on Group Workcamps for eleven years and have a great respect for Group. We travel by bus (or private vehicles), take our tools, sleep on air mattresses (or floors), eat in cafeterias, shower in school gyms, and sweat out in the heat. We usually join between 300 and 400 other youth and adults in different areas of the United States to work on the homes of the elderly and the less fortunate. We paint exteriors and interiors of homes, build fences, build wheel chair ramps, build porches, clean, drywall, roof, etc. We help bring Christ back into their lives. It is a chance to spread the Word and build relationships.
Sign up’s start in August and September of the year prior to camp.
