Christ The King!

Happy Solemnity of Christ the King!

Today we end our liturgical year, a wonderful year of grace with the Solemnity of Christ the King! It is hard to believe that next Sunday December 1st will be the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning of a new liturgical year. Who is Jesus Christ to you? That is a great question for you and I to answer. Is Christ our King, the Center of our lives? Would you or I be willing to die for Christ the King? I often thing back to those Saints and Martyrs who died shouting “Long live Christ the King! Viva Christo Rey!” This was shouted by the Cristeros – those who stood for Christ in the midst of the persecution of the Church by the Mexican Government many years ago. This were the words shouted by Saint Jose Sanchez del Rio a young boy who refused to renounce Christ and is a light to the young today! These were the words shouted by Blessed Miguel Pro right before he was shot and killed by government soldiers. Do you and I prefer nothing more than Christ? Are we the soldiers of Christ – the Church Militant- who will stand for Christ and nothing else, especially in the midst of persecution and tribulation? Please take this to prayer. May we have that courage (fortitude) to be able proclaim “Viva Christo Rey!” May we be focused on Christ the King as our thoughts and lives aim towards heaven our eternal home and the Kingdom of God!
