In Memory of Kendrick Castillo

May the Peace of the Risen Christ be with you!

Our prayers and thoughts continue to go out to all of our Students and Parents affected by the STEM School Shooting. In the midst of such darkness, I truly pray that the light of Christ floods the darkness and that we know to never lose hope. In the midst of that very evil act, I pray for healing, comfort and strength for all of the victims, students and parents. In the midst of that very evil act, I pray in thanksgiving for the heroic actions of the students in that classroom and school. While Kendrick Castillo returned back to God much earlier than we would have preferred, he truly represented the very best in our teens and young people. He really lived out the Gospel of John 15:13 “Greater love has no other than this, that one lays down his life for his friends.” Kendrick did this, and with Brendan and those in the classroom who exhibited courageous acts, prevented the shedding of more innocent blood.

This past Sunday afternoon, in honor of Kendrick, some of our parishioners and other members of the Castle Rock community planted a garden bed in our Father Solanus Casey Garden for the Poor. I was so impressed by the beautiful sign that a local woodworker made in memory of Kendrick. Many thanks. Along our prayer path, I would encourage any teen that would like to participate in planting a special garden honoring Kendrick with seeds of flowers from the Vatican Gardens. It would be a nice tribute as well. Thanks to all of you who lit candles this past weekend in honor of Kendrick, Brendan, the survivors, students, teachers and parents.

You’re the best.

Fr. Brad
