Today we celebrate Palm Sunday — the beginning of our Holy Week. It is with great joy that we honor Jesus as king, still in the same breath, what sorrow as we witness His passion and death. Thankfully, we know the glorious outcome of this painful journey - Easter! Resurrection!
Today, as we enter the climax of Jesus’ mission here on earth, remember that He is the model for you on your journey.
Jesus endured such tortures, knowing that He did not deserve them, but still He humbly submitted to them. Don’t you have to do the same? In large ways and small? We see that throughout Christ’s life: His mission was to fulfill His Father’s mission - LOVE! He became man for a reason, and He humbly and obediently submitted to that mission for you. You, too, play a unique role in our Father’s mission by bringing others to Him through Jesus. Only love can do that. And it simply begins with the witness of your life. Let all that you do, including the way you speak and act, reflect your mission in this life - LOVE!
Although our Lord deserved every honor and praise while on earth, He chose the path of service and humility, sacrifice and love. He gave us everything in that moment on the cross. This truly was an overflowing gift for each one of us. So how can we share our gratitude with such a Gracious Giver? We can bring service, humility, sacrifice and love into all areas of our lives — our homes by the way we treat our family members, into our church by the way we welcome and serve our newcomers, and into our workplaces by the way we speak and act.
Our Gospel today shares the account of Jesus’ last days on earth, and how He lives them says a great deal about how you should be living yours as His disciple. Jesus does many things in these last days, and they all revolve around prayer and service — two trademark actions of a good and faithful Catholic. He first hosts a Passover meal in which He gives us His Body and Blood in the Eucharist. He then intensely prays to His Father. Lastly, He submits to humiliation, torture and death for our sake, calling out to the Father in His weakest moments.
You might not be called to the same type of prayer and service, but you can commit time in daily prayer with our Lord, and serve your family, church, and neighbors in the various ways God is calling you to do so. No matter your state in life, you can only be a faithful disciple through loving prayer and service.
As we enter this Holy Week, take some time to reflect on the life of Jesus as He is your model, and may you live in Him daily.

Hoy celebramos el Domingo de Ramos, el comienzo de la Semana Santa. Con gran alegría honramos a Jesús como Rey y, al mismo tiempo, con gran dolor somos testigos de su pasión y muerte. Afortunadamente, conocemos el glorioso resultado de este doloroso viaje: la Pascua, la Resurrección. Hoy, al entrar en el clímax de la misión de Jesús aquí en la tierra, recuerda que Él es el modelo para ti en tu viaje.
Jesús soportó tales torturas, sabiendo que no las merecía, pero aun así se sometió humildemente a ellas. ¿No tienes que hacer tú lo mismo? ¿En lo grande y en lo pequeño? Lo vemos a lo largo de la vida de Cristo: Su misión era cumplir la misión de Su Padre: ¡AMAR! Se hizo hombre por una razón, y se sometió humilde y obedientemente a esa misión por ti. Tú también juegas un papel único en la misión de nuestro Padre llevando a otros a Él a través de Jesús. Sólo el amor puede hacerlo. Y comienza simplemente con el testimonio de tu vida. Deja que todo lo que hagas, incluyendo la forma en que hablas y actúas, refleje tu misión en esta vida: ¡AMOR!
Aunque nuestro Señor mereció todos los honores y alabanzas mientras estuvo en la tierra, eligió el camino del servicio y la humildad, el sacrificio y el amor. Nos lo dio todo en aquel momento en la cruz. Realmente fue un regalo desbordante para cada uno de nosotros. Entonces, ¿cómo podemos compartir nuestra gratitud con un Dador tan Bondadoso? Podemos llevar el servicio, la humildad, el sacrificio y el amor a todos los ámbitos de nuestras vidas: a nuestros hogares, por la forma en que tratamos a los miembros de nuestra familia; a nuestra iglesia, por la forma en que acogemos y servimos a los recién llegados; y a nuestros lugares de trabajo, por la forma en que hablamos y actuamos.
Nuestro Evangelio de hoy narra los últimos días de Jesús en la tierra, y la forma en que Él los vive dice mucho sobre cómo deberías vivir tú los tuyos como discípulo suyo. Jesús hace muchas cosas en estos últimos días, y todas giran en torno a la oración y el servicio, dos acciones características de un católico bueno y fiel. Primero celebra una cena pascual en la que nos da su Cuerpo y su Sangre en la Eucaristía. Después reza intensamente a su Padre. Por último, se somete a la humillación, la tortura y la muerte por nosotros, invocando al Padre en sus momentos de mayor debilidad.
Puede que tú no estés llamado al mismo tipo de oración y servicio, pero puedes dedicar tiempo a la oración diaria con el Señor, y servir a tu familia, a tu Iglesia y a tus vecinos de las diversas maneras en que Dios te llama a hacerlo. No importa cuál sea tu situación en la vida, sólo puedes ser un discípulo fiel a través de la oración y el servicio amorosos.
Al entrar en la Semana Santa, tómate un tiempo para reflexionar sobre la vida de Jesús, que es tu modelo, y que vivas en Él cada día.
