This past weekend a number of churches held “Stewardship Sunday.” Stewardship Sunday is really a great opportunity to reflect on how we are living both individually and as a parish as “Stewards of the gifts entrusted to us by God.” The word Steward in the Bible means “keeper of the house.” You and I as parishioners are keepers of the House of the Lord, entrusted with our beautiful buildings, grounds and the pastoral care of our guests, visitors and those who call our parish home. We are stewards of the mysteries of the Lord. Stewardship is not ownership. I am so very blessed that I am not alone in the work of being a Steward here. I have a most excellent staff, councils, parishioners and fraternal organizations like the Knights of Columbus, Saint Vincent de Paul, Catholic Charities, American Heritage Girls, Stephens Ministers and Military Outreach that truly are great stewards (keepers of the house) who have the heart of Christ, are the hands and feet of Christ! I am so blessed to have Fr. Mark here with us – he lives stewardship! I am blessed to have the Deacons with me as well. Deacon Jacob, Deacon Tom and Deacon Ed are all great blessings and they live Stewardship as well. How blessed we are to have in our Parish Jamie Crane who is the Diocesan Director of Stewardship!
This weekend I will be preaching at all the Masses about how we live as Stewards here at the Parish. I want to give you an overview of how we try to be good stewards of the funds that you entrust to us for the building up of the Kingdom of God. I want to give you an overview of the life of this very vibrant parish. Looking ahead I want to talk to you about some of the challenges that we face with such great growth in our area. We are blessed to have growth as a challenge and opportunity!
From the bottom of my heart I want to say thank you for all that you do in the life of our very vibrant and growing parish. You are great stewards – keepers of the house of the Lord – with our wonderful buildings and grounds entrusted to us by the Lord! Thanks for your financial, volunteer and prayerful support of our parish. You’re the best!
