Do you really realize how the sacrifice of Jesus impacts your life? By His passion, death, and resurrection he has changed the world - set you free from sin and death — and called you to live forever!
Our Gospel today begins with two disciples realizing Jesus had just appeared to them. They had spent the day with Him without even recognizing Him!
You can learn a valuable lesson here. To recognize Jesus’ appearances in your life, you need to know Him. And the best way to know Him is to spend time with Him. It can start with just ten minutes of quiet prayer a day and increasing that time week by week. You might begin by reading Bible stories of His resurrection appearances, the lives of the Saints, or by praying a glorious mystery of the Rosary. Yet the goal should be to carve out a specific time or times each day, in a quiet space, for just you and the Lord.
As these disciples spent time with Jesus, it says, “He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.” Through building a routine of prayer and intentionally working on your relationship with Jesus, He will help you better understand His Word and all that He is calling you to do.
As the disciples mentioned in our Gospel, they recognized it was Jesus in the breaking of the bread. You can also better know the Lord through the Sacraments, most especially the Holy Mass. The Eucharist is Jesus Himself — Body, Blood Soul, and Divinity. What better way to grow in intimacy with Jesus than to receive Him as frequently as possible or to go into the church and talk to Him in front of the Blessed Sacrament? As you make Jesus the center of your life — through prayer and the Sacraments — you will be able to recognize Him in all your day-to-day moments.
The end of our Gospel reminds you to share this with others. The disciples in Jesus’ time were witnesses of His life, death, and resurrection. It was their duty to spread it to the ends of the earth. You are also a witness. You were not physically at Calvary, but you are a witness of the truth of your faith and the effects that Christ has on your life. Go and share the goodness and love He pours out on you with someone new this week!

¿Te das cuenta realmente del impacto que tiene en tu vida el sacrificio de Jesús? Con su pasión, muerte y resurrección ha cambiado el mundo, te ha liberado del pecado y de la muerte y te ha llamado a vivir para siempre.
Nuestro Evangelio de hoy comienza con dos discípulos que se dan cuenta de que Jesús se les acaba de aparecer. ¡Habían pasado el día con Él sin siquiera reconocerlo!
Aquí puedes aprender una valiosa lección. Para reconocer las apariciones de Jesús en tu vida, necesitas conocerle. Y la mejor manera de conocerlo es pasar tiempo con Él. Puede empezar con sólo diez minutos de oración en silencio al día e ir aumentando ese tiempo semana a semana. Puedes empezar leyendo relatos bíblicos de sus apariciones en la resurrección, las vidas de los santos, o rezando un misterio glorioso del Rosario. Pero el objetivo debe ser reservar un tiempo o tiempos específicos cada día, en un espacio tranquilo, sólo para ti y el Señor.
Mientras estos discípulos pasaban tiempo con Jesús, dice, “les abrió el entendimiento para que comprendieran las Escrituras". Al construir una rutina de oración y trabajar intencionalmente en tu relación con Jesús, Él te ayudará a entender mejor su palabra y todo lo que Él te está llamando a hacer.
Como mencionaron los discípulos en nuestro Evangelio, reconocieron que era Jesús al partir el pan. También puedes conocer mejor al Señor a través de los Sacramentos, muy especialmente la Santa Misa. La Eucaristía es Jesús mismo: Cuerpo, Sangre, Alma y Divinidad. Qué mejor manera de crecer en la intimidad con Jesús que recibirlo tan frecuentemente como sea posible o entrar en la iglesia y hablar con Él ante el Santísimo Sacramento? A medida que hagas de Jesús el centro de tu vida -a través de la oración y los Sacramentos- podrás reconocerle en todos tus momentos cotidianos.
El final de nuestro Evangelio te recuerda que debes compartir esto con los demás. Los discípulos de la época de Jesús fueron testigos de su vida, muerte y resurrección. Su deber era difundirlo hasta los confines de la tierra. Tú también eres testigo. No estuviste físicamente en el Calvario, pero eres testigo de la verdad de tu fe y de los efectos que Cristo tiene en tu vida. Ve y comparte la bondad y el amor que Él derrama sobre ti con alguien nuevo esta semana.
