Happy Third Sunday in Advent!
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice.
Indeed, the Lord is near.
As Christmas draws nearer, we should be people of great joy because Christ is near. This year’s Gaudete Sunday is particularly poignant for myself, my staff, the Knights of Columbus and our parishioners who are grieving the loss of Dr. Jim Trompeter who died suddenly. Dr. Jim really felt the nearness of Christ in his life and truly felt the joy of Christ’s nearness. Dr. Jim, his wife Lu and their kids had been parishioners of this parish for 49 years. Dr. Jim radiated the joy of Christ to all who met him. The day before he died I watched him leave from the ChristLife session and go to confession. He truly was spiritually prepared to go home to Christ.
I pray that each of us are not only spiritually prepared to meet Christ, but like Dr. Jim are people who radiate the love of Christ in the midst of a darkened world. Make it a point as you go through these precious few days before Christmas to make eye contact with those whom you meet and wish them a Merry Christmas! May the peace of Christ be with you.
