Happy Easter, everyone! Today, we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ! This event is the greatest event in our Catholic faith. It is through the resurrection that Christ defeated sin and death and opened for us the gates to eternal life. All of God’s promises are fulfilled through this glorious event.
We have been preparing for 40 long days, through prayer and penance, so that we might be better prepared to receive Christ this day, and to better prepare our hearts to one day rise with Him in eternal life. Today, we do not fast, but rather, celebrate and rejoice because of our great and merciful God!
The meaning and joy of Easter is not just a “one-day” event, but is an essential element of living our Catholic faith. We live out the joy of Easter all year long. Our Bible readings today reveal how we can do this here and now in our day-to-day lives.
Once Mary Magdalene saw the stone removed from Jesus’ tomb, she ran to tell Simon Peter and John. Simon Peter and John ran to the tomb as well. Each figure in our Gospel today “ran.” We can tell the relationship that these disciples had with Jesus because of the way they responded. Mary Magdalene didn’t see the empty tomb and think, “someone else will figure it out.” Peter and John didn’t hear the news and think, “We’ll check on it later.” They each responded with conviction as they “ran” for Jesus.
Do you have a relationship with Jesus to the point where you are running to Him each day? The way these disciples responded is how you should respond. Don’t keep telling yourself that someday you’ll get around to putting God first — “I am too busy now, but I will pray later” or “I will eventually get around to spending less on material things and increase my gifts to the church.” Every moment throughout your day is an opportunity to respond to God in gratitude, compassion and eagerness. And although there will be moments when you don’t “feel” like responding to Him, it is in those moments when you faithfully respond anyway that matters the most.
If you step back and think about how incredible your faith is, how could you not want to share this with others? Maybe, a lot of the time, you focus on life’s many hardships, but if you recognize how truly blessed you are — you have a God who died and rose for you, and you have the most intimate way of receiving Him through Holy Communion — then you can be a person of joy, real Easter joy! And if you are living your life with this joy, then every moment becomes a moment to share — how you greet people on the street and in church; how you do chores around the house; how you respond to your spouse. You are blessed with the knowledge of this faith — faithfully share it in word and with the witness of your life!
Celebrate this glorious day with prayer and feasting, for Christ is risen! And carry this Easter joy with you by the way you live your life and how you respond to Jesus each day. Happy Easter!

¡Feliz Pascua a todos! Hoy celebramos la Resurrección de Cristo. Este acontecimiento es el más grande de nuestra fe católica. Gracias a la resurrección, Cristo venció al pecado y a la muerte y nos abrió las puertas de la vida eterna. Todas las promesas de Dios se cumplen a través de este glorioso acontecimiento.
Nos hemos estado preparando durante 40 largos días, mediante la oración y la penitencia, para estar mejor preparados para recibir a Cristo este día, y para preparar mejor nuestros corazones para resucitar un día con Él en la vida eterna. Hoy no ayunamos, sino que celebramos y nos alegramos por nuestro Dios grande y misericordioso.
El significado y la alegría de la Pascua no es sólo un acontecimiento de "un día", sino un elemento esencial de la vida de nuestra fe católica. Vivimos la alegría de la Pascua durante todo el año. Nuestras lecturas bíblicas de hoy nos revelan cómo podemos hacerlo aquí y ahora en nuestra vida cotidiana.
Cuando María Magdalena vio la piedra quitada del sepulcro de Jesús, corrió a decírselo a Simón Pedro y a Juan. Simón Pedro y Juan también corrieron al sepulcro. Cada figura de nuestro Evangelio de hoy "corrió". Podemos saber la relación que estos discípulos tenían con Jesús por la forma en que respondieron. María Magdalena no vio la tumba vacía y pensó, “Alguien más averiguará lo qué pasó.” Pedro y Juan no escucharon la noticia y pensaron, “Echaremos un vistazo más tarde.” Cada uno de ellos respondió con convicción mientras "corrían" en busca de Jesús.
¿Tienes una relación con Jesús hasta el punto de correr hacia Él cada día? La manera en que estos discípulos respondieron es como tú deberías responder. No sigas diciéndote a ti mismo que algún día llegarás a poner a Dios en primer lugar: "Ahora estoy demasiado ocupado, pero rezaré más tarde" o "Con el tiempo llegaré a gastar menos en cosas materiales y aumentaré mis donaciones a la iglesia". Cada momento de tu día es una oportunidad para responder a Dios con gratitud, compasión y entusiasmo. Y aunque habrá momentos en los que no "tengas ganas" de responderle, lo más importante es que en esos momentos respondas fielmente de todos modos.
Si piensas en lo increíble que es tu fe, ¿cómo podrías no querer compartirla con los demás? Tal vez, muchas veces, te concentras en las muchas dificultades de la vida, pero si reconoces lo verdaderamente bendecido que eres - tienes un Dios que murió y resucitó por ti, y tienes la forma más íntima de recibirlo a través de la Sagrada Comunión - entonces puedes ser una persona de alegría, ¡una verdadera alegría pascual! Y si vives tu vida con esta alegría, entonces cada momento se convierte en un momento para compartir: cómo saludas a la gente en la calle y en la iglesia; cómo haces las tareas de la casa; cómo respondes a tu cónyuge. Has sido bendecido con el conocimiento de esta fe: ¡compártela fielmente de palabra y con el testimonio de tu vida!
Celebra este día glorioso con oración y fiesta, ¡porque Cristo ha resucitado! Y lleva contigo esta alegría pascual con tu forma de vivir la vida y de responder a Jesús cada día. ¡Feliz Pascua!
