Our Easter celebration reaches its fulfillment today as we celebrate the great feast of Pentecost. Today, we focus on the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church and in our individual lives.
As I mentioned at Mass last weekend, when I shift my eyes from the heavens to the mission of God around me, when I go out on a limb and dare to take the risk of being the disciple that God calls me to be, I am actively living in the kingdom of God here and now. That’s what Pentecost did for the birth of the church.
After we paid off the debt to our church on Thanksgiving Day, you started asking me: “Now what, Father? What’s next?’ That’s why we did a feasibility study to begin the process of discerning a new mission for our parish - south of here - in the Crystal Valley area. The full report is at our website. We’re looking for suitable land. We’re meeting with the Diocese of Colorado Springs Buildings & Properties Committee and waiting for a new Bishop to ultimately give us approval.
Please join me in this prayer to the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our discernment:
We come before you, Holy Spirit, humbly aware of our sinfulness, yet united in your name. Come to us, remain with us, and enlighten our hearts. Grant us the light and strength to know your will, to make it our own, and to live it out in our lives. Guide us with your wisdom, sustain us with your power, for you are God, sharing the glory of the Father and the Son. Unite us to you in the bond of charity and keep us faithful to all that is true. We pray for the future growth of our parish. Tell us what to do. May all our thoughts and actions be pleasing to you, and make us worthy of the reward promised to good and faithful servants. You live and reign with the Father and the Son, God, forever and ever. Amen.
