Thank you for joining us this Second Sunday of Advent in this Jubilee Year of Hope.  As we draw another week closer to Christmas, our hope in Jesus gets stronger as we honor our Blessed Mother, Mary with two great feasts:  Her Immaculate Conception, on Monday, December 8 (A Holy Day of Obligation) and as Patroness of All the Americas under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Friday, December 12.

This week, please pray with me this beautiful prayer to Our Lady of the Americas:

To Our Lady of the Americas

Virgin of hope, Mother of the poor, Lady of pilgrims: hear us.

Today we pray for the Americas, the continents you visit with bare feet, offering us the riches of the Child you hold in your arms.

A fragile Child who makes us strong, 

a poor Child who makes us rich, 

a slave Child who sets us free.

Virgin of Hope: The Americas are awakening. 

The light of a new morning is dawning on its hills. 

The day of salvation is drawing near.

A great light has shone upon the peoples who walked in darkness.

That light is the Lord whom you gave us long ago, in Bethlehem, at midnight.

We want to walk in hope. 

Mother of the poor: there is much misery among us. 

Many homes lack material bread.

The bread of truth is lacking in many minds. 

The bread of love is lacking in many hearts.

The Bread of the Lord is lacking in many peoples. 

You know poverty and you saw it. 

Give us the soul of the poor to be happy.

Relieve the misery of bodies and remove from the hearts of so many the selfishness that impoverishes.

Lady of pilgrims: we are the People of God in the Americas.

We are the Church journeying toward Christmas.

May bishops have a father's heart. 

May priests be friends of God for all. 

May religious men and women show the anticipated joy of the Kingdom of Heaven.

May the laity be witnesses of the Lord before the world. 

May we walk together with all, sharing their anxieties and hopes. 

May the peoples of the Americas advance toward progress along the paths of peace and justice.

Our Lady of the Americas enlighten our hope, alleviate our poverty, and journey with us toward the Father.

Gracias por acompañarnos en este segundo domingo de Adviento en este Año Jubilar de la Esperanza. A medida que nos acercamos una semana más a la Navidad, nuestra esperanza en Jesús se fortalece al honrar a nuestra Santísima Madre, María, con dos grandes fiestas:  su Inmaculada Concepción, el lunes 8 de diciembre (día de precepto), y como Patrona de todas las Américas bajo su título de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, el viernes 12 de diciembre.

Esta semana, recen conmigo esta hermosa oración a Nuestra Señora de Las Américas:

A Nuestra Señora de Las Américas

Virgen de la esperanza, Madre de los pobres, 

Señora de los que peregrinan: óyenos.

Hoy te pedimos por las Américas, 

los continentes que tú visitas con los pies descalzos, 

ofreciéndoles la riqueza del Niño que aprietas en tus brazos.

Un Niño frágil, que nos hace fuertes, 

un Niño pobre, que nos nace ricos, 

un Nino esclavo, que nos hace libres.

Virgen de la esperanza: Las Américas despiertan. 

Sobre sus cerros despunta la luz de una mañana nueva. 

Es el día de la salvación que ya se acerca.

Sobre los pueblos que marchaban en tinieblas, 

ha brillado una gran luz.

Esa luz es el Señor que tú nos diste, hace mucho, en Belén, 

a medianoche.

Queremos caminar en la esperanza. 

Madre de los pobres: hay mucha miseria entre nosotros. 

Falta el pan material en muchas casas. 

Falta el pan de la verdad en muchas mentes. 

Falta el pan del amor en muchos hombres.

Falta el Pan del Señor en muchos pueblos. 

Tú conoces la pobreza y la viste. 

Danos alma de pobres para ser felices.

Pero alivia la miseria de los cuerpos y arranca del corazón de tantos hombres el egoísmo que empobrece.

Señora de los que peregrinan: 

somos el Pueblo de Dios, en Las Américas.

Somos la Iglesia que peregrina hacia la Navidad.

Que los obispos tengan un corazón de padre. 

Que los sacerdotes sean los amigos de Dios para los hombres. 

Que los religiosos y religiosas muestren la alegría anticipada del Reino de los cielos.

Que los laicos sean, ante el mundo, testigos del Señor. 

Que caminemos juntos con todos los hombres, compartiendo sus angustias y esperanzas. 

Que los pueblos de Las Américas vayan avanzando hacia el progreso por los caminos de la paz en la justicia.

Nuestra Señora de Las Américas ilumina nuestra esperanza, 

alivia nuestra pobreza, peregrina con nosotros hacia el Padre. Amén.
